Derek Kauneckis

Political Science

Academic & Research Interest

Prof. Kauneckis’ research focuses on multi-scale environmental governance and includes work on water and land policy, institutional analysis, science and technology policy, and policy innovation.  Projects have included both domestic and international environmental policy and work with private, nonprofit and public sector clients.  He has conducted research with the environmental policy communities at Lake Tahoe (USA) and Lake Baikal (Russia), water organizations in Jaipur (India), conservation managers and land owners at the Calakmul Biosphere in Yucatan (Mexico) and rural Indiana (USA), indigenous Kekchi Maya communities (Belize), and water managers on the Truckee, Las Vegas and Sacramento River systems (USA).  He is currently working on climate change adaptation in natural resource policy, comprehensive water management frameworks, the modeling-policy interface, and policy instruments for fostering environmental innovation.
