Research Interests:

Groundwater and surface water exchange is typically an overlooked hydrologic flux because it is often small compared to the other components. When porewater/surface water fluxes have been monitored, they have generally been integrated over large areas decreasing the accuracy of understanding the processes involved in the exchange. Biogeochemical heterogeneities within near stream porewater may display large temporal and spatial variability, with the highest gradients within a few centimeters. The groundwater and surface water exchange, particularly at locations discharging to surface water, may have a significant effect on downstream surface water quality and chemistry. My dissertation research centers around understanding the physical processes involved in porewater and surface water exchange and the physicochemical effects on downstream water quality and chemistry from the groundwater perspective. I try to use high quality field collected data, laboratory analyses, and numerical simulations to guide my work.
