Thesis: Assessing Carbon and Nitrogen in a Central Nevada Pinyon Woodland with Tree Encroachment and Prescribed Fire

Biography:

Research interests include biogeochemical cycling, disturbance ecology, and plant soil interactions. Current projects involve modeling plant and soil interactions associated with fuel reduction treatments in sagebrush ecosystems, quantification of root biomass, and development of ecosystem carbon and nitrogen budgets for the Great Basin. Previous projects have looked at infiltration and runoff processes associated with prescribed fire, and changes in microbial communities with tree encroachment and fire. Secondary interests include fluvial geomorphology and hydro-ecology. Current projects involve design and testing of in stream grade control structures and flow modifiers in order to restore riparian ecosystem function.
