Research Interests:

Dr. Heyvaert has focused his research on aquatic ecosystems, watershed management and paleolimnology. This includes investigations associated with nutrient budgets and mass balance models, as well as applied research on the effective design of stormwater monitoring networks and evaluation of BMP performance. His work includes applied research and directed monitoring studies on nutrient and pollutant loadings to lakes, rivers and reservoirs in the western U.S. and South America. Technical interests include nutrient chemistry, elemental and stable isotope analyses, radionuclide chemistry, and geochemical biomarkers. In the field of paleolimnology he has investigated historical conditions and the patterns of change in lakes and watersheds, with a focus on the Holocene paleoclimate and ecosystem response to anthropogenic impacts.
